Here’s a little more about my background and approach to storytelling
I’m a freelance journalist based in Palo Alto, California, with a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Mumbai and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.
I was born and raised in Mumbai and did much of my reporting in India before moving to the Bay Area.
My approach to a story incorporates my multicultural background (I have lived in Mumbai, New York, and Hong Kong; I speak 3 Indian languages), rigorous research skills picked up at law school, and an openness to learn from my interview subjects. I’ve interviewed astrobiologists, CEOs, yoga teachers, and amateur athletes, among others.
My work is driven by my desire to learn more about the people and places around me. I love taking detours when something catches my eye, spending time on new experiences that expand my understanding of the world, and stopping to examine funky-looking insects and enticing pastry shops!
I enjoy telling stories in the fields of nature, wildlife, food, culture, travel, and sport. My reporting has taken me from the bottom of the seabed in the Philippines to the world’s highest motorable road in the Himalayas to senior citizen centers in New York City.
I’ve written about decoding Ladakh’s geological history with NASA scientists, petrolheads whose lives revolve around their Fiat cars, Filipina domestic helpers in Hong Kong who play cricket on their day off, the evolution of theatre snacks in India, and the mind-boggling wildlife found in the heart of Mumbai.
In the past I have been a part of the audience engagement team of TIME Magazine in Hong Kong, a writer for National Geographic Traveller India and a producer for Audiomatic, an Indian podcast studio.
